A nationally recognized professional development program focused on helping medical students find their highest purpose in medicine.
- Professional and leadership development done through a professional identity formation framework
- Organically grown through engaging medical students on an opt-in basis
- Incorporates faculty coaching to facilitate student reflection and intention-setting
Learning Framework at the University of Utah
Uses the Competing Values Framework to identify the core value of an undergraduate education. Worked with the administration to apply the framework towards program objectives and evaluation.
- Identified the four core values (transformation, community, knowledge, and impact) of an education program
- Applied overall framework towards an evaluation strategy
- Adapted to various colleges and majors at the University
Early, Mid, and Advanced Career Coaching at the University of Utah Health Sciences
A faculty peer-coaching program aimed to support faculty career development in the various stages (early, mid, late) stages of career. Each stage has it’s own curriculum around the main challenges of that particular career stage.
- Uses a near-peer faculty coaching model (e.g., for the Early Career Coaching program, an associate professor coach would coach an assistant professor client)
- Each program has a specific curriculum that the coach would guide the client through
- Program is jointly funded through the Faculty Office and the faculty’s home department
Pathways Program at the University of Utah School of Medicine
A program for medical students to explore interests in medicine and healthcare beyond the clinical realm. Helps students find their interests in the field and have more to share during residency interviews.
- Leverages the strengths and research of the larger organization
- Incorporates elements of seminar, experiences, individual research, and capstone project into the program
- Allows professional exploration within a field along a clearer progression
Masters of Health Professions Education at the University of Michigan
Assisted in leading the development and deployment of a competency-based Masters of Health Professions Program at the School of Medicine at Univ. of Michigan.
- A fully competency-based curriculum leveraging the experience of the learner
- A system to assess the learners output whether done during the program or through one’s prior experience
- Incorporates high degree of learner flexibility using individual development plans to customize learning agenda
Medical Student Curriculum at the University of Michigan
Assisted in leading the design and launch of the medical student education program at the University of Michigan Medical School.
- Designed and launched a learning community model (M-Home)
- Reduced the pre-clinical phase to one year, and increasing the post clerkship phase to two years, allowing for more academic choice (Branches)
- Incorporated coaching to support medical student development within the learning communities
- Worked with over 100 faculty to coordinate the approval and launch of the curriculum
- Coordinated with 10 other medical schools through a grant from the American Medical Association
